Bunyans in Scotland

I hit a brick wall w/ my research, so thought I would post what I've got here and see if this fits into anyone else's research.

Francis Bunyan b. 1829 approx d. 05/02/1912 Ayr
m. Mary-Ann McLean b. 1825 approx d. 24/02/1908 Ayr

They had (at least) 4 children:
Thomas Bunyan b. 1850 approx m. Mary Graham
James Bunyan b. 03/10/1855 Ayr
Elizabeth Bunyan b. 16/06/1860 Ayr
Agnes Bunyan b. 03/07/1865 Ayr

I've traced back to Francis, but can't find any record of his birth or marriage. His death cert doesn't record anything about his parents except the fact that his father was a quarryman. Although all the info I have is from Ayr, family anecdotes lead me to believe there is a link with the Bunyan family in the Scottish Borders. Any help would be great!
