Burchett-Plummer Cemetery, Carter Co., KY

Greetings,
Does anyone know the history of the monument located in this cemetery honoring soldiers from the Revolution through the Spanish-American War? It shows the names of William Rice and Andrew Sartain with 1776 by their names. I believe William is my husband's ancestor who was b. in 1756. I have been unable to find any record of his Revolutionary War service. Any help will be appreciated.
Martha Rice
