I have tried for years to prove that Burwell Burchett married Mary Fannin. I believe it to be so because the Fannin name was
used in the Burchett family -- Achelis Fannin Burchett. That however does not prove the point. I know a Mary Burchett married Edward How(e)and I can connect Burwell Burchett, Jr., John Burchett, Benjamin Franklin Burchett & Rhoda Burchett (later Lambert)with a William Howe, but this still doesn't prove that Burwell Burchett, Sr. was married to Mary Fannin.
In fact, I can't find a single document that names Burwell Burchett, Sr.'s wife.
Woodrow Burchett of Olive Hill, Ky . (later Ashland, Ky.) was the first to propose this connection. In later years he changed his mind and felt that the Mary Burchett who married Edward How was originally Mary Fannin, daughter of Achilles Fannin, Sr., son of Bryan & Elizabeth Fannin of Amelia Co., Va. Again, I think it was all circumstantial.
I have a copy of the marriage of Edward How to Mary Burtchett. I also have a copy of the Benjamin Applegate Burchett Receipt Book of 1835 which lists the birth dates of
what appears of be siblings: Benjamin F. Burchett, Burwell Burchett, Jr., Rhoda Burchett, John Burchett & William Howe (who would be a half-sibling)to the Burchetts.
What documentation have you found?
I am descended from Benjamin F. Burchett, Sr. of Carter Co. & am also descended from Bryan Fannin of Amelia Co., Va.
I would like to hear from you.
