I am married to Sharon Elizabeth Burdge, who was born and raised in Red Bank, NJ. She has a long line of NJ Burdge ancestors, tracing back, beginning with her father,as follows:
Lawrence Reid Burdge (1907-)
Howard Lewis Burdge (1881-1975)
Allen Israel Burdge (1861-1928)
Jonathan Longstreet Burdge (1826-1902)
Joseph Burdge (1792-1865)
Jonathan (John) Burdge (ca.1765-1821)
Joseph Burdge, Jr. (ca. 1744-1782)
Joseph Burdge, Sr. (ca. 1721-)
David Burdge, Jr. (ca.1703-ca.1781)
David Burdge, Sr., (ca.1670-1720)
Jonathan Burdge (ca. 1640-1699)
There are three areas of great interest to us. First, we would like to learn more about your earlier posted reference to the Burdge participation in the Pine Barren Gang. Were they simply bandits, or were they involved in a form of guerrila warfare against the British forces and loyalists? Could you share with us any written sources you may have on this subject?
Second, we would like to learn more about the extent of American Indian lineage in the Burdge family line.Sharon's parents have mentioned that David Burdge, Sr. (second generation)may have married an Indian "princess" on Long Island, prior to moving to New Jersey in the late 1600s or early 1700s. It is quite evident to us, however, that such intermarriage extended well into the 1800s. We have photographs of Burdges, only two or three generations removed, revealing features and complexions that leave litle doubt about this. We would like to acknowledge and celebrate the increased richness of such a possible genetic legacy. Can you enlighten us further?
Third, what is your Burdge family relationship to Sharon?
