My father had a cousin named Francis McTyeire. She was married to a dentist in Bessemer, AL, named Robert McTyeire. I am trying to find out what her maiden name was. I found an old newspaper article that stated that she was the granddaughter of W.L. Burford, who built a mansion in Brighton, AL, that she later inherited.
To save my life, I cannot figure out HOW Francis McTyeire was related to my father. Note the spelling of her name. That was a common feminine spelling in my father's mother's family. My grandmother's maiden name was Mamie Francis Whitten. HER mother had a brother with a daughter named Francis, or Fannie, but that just doesn't work age-wise.
I have found William L. or W. L. Burford in at least four censuses, excluding 1880, when he seems to have disappeared. I know he died in 1914, but I have him in 1860, 1870, 1900, and 1910.
If there is anyone out there who can shed any light on this mystery, I would love to hear from you!
