I posted a message a few days ago in several forums re. my problem finding documentation for John M. Burford being the son of Reverend Daniel Burford and wife Elizabeth Hawkins. I've received a couple of responses advising me to provide more information. Of course, they are right - I should have included that. Here is the information: Reverend Daniel Burford was born about 1742 in Louisa County, Virginia. He lived in North Carolina at least for some time, then lived a long time in Tennessee and died there probably in the early 1820's. John M. Burford was born in July, 1795 in North Carolina. He was in Tennessee when he married Mary "Polly" Berry Feb. 21, 1818 in Williamson County, TN. He moved with his wife and young son to Illinois by 1820. He settled in Jasper County, had several children (I know of 6) and died in Jasper County Feb. 27, 1873. He is buried in the Burford Cemetery in Jasper County, Illinois along with his son, Alexander Burford (born Mar 21, 1820 - died Jan. 28, 1858). I have been told very positively that this man and his wife, Polly Berry, were the parents of my great-grandfather, (Alexander Burford born 1820 in Tennessee), and is the son of Reverend Daniel Burford and Elizabeth Hawkins. I believe this is true because everything else this person has told me has proven to be true when I researched it. I just can't find any records documenting John M. Burford's birth and who his parents were. John Hawkins Burford was a grandson of Rev. Daniel Burford and Frances Hawkins (Daniel's first wife). He was born in May, 1795 in North Carolina to Rev. Daniel Burford's son (Daniel Hawkins Burford and wife Mildred Terrell). He was married in Sumner County, Tennessee on Mar 24, 1817 to Nancy McCollister (I think this should be McCallister, but not sure). He lived out his life in Tennessee and died there in 1863. He is buried in the Burford Cemetery in Smith County, Tennessee. This is the John Burford that is mistaken for the son of Reverend Daniel Burford and Elizabeth Hawkins. You can see why, with his and John M. Burford's birth dates being so close together and one whose mother's maiden name was Hawkins, and the other's father had the middle name of Hawkins, both married in Tennessee - one in 1817, the other in 1818. This is the main information I have. I should have included this in the first message I posted. Wathada Thomas Notify Administrator about this message?
