This obit was clipped by a family member who did not
record the name of the newspaper. Social Security Death
Index gives date of death as May, 1985. I have no further
information.

Gordon Tinsley Burford, Sr. Gordon Tinsley Burford, Sr.,
80, of Lock Lane, Amherst [VA], died Tuesday, May 7, in
Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Claudia
Jones Burford.

Born in Amherst County on June 12, 1904, he was the son
of the late Tinsley Allen and Callie Mallory Burford.

He was a retired merchant seaman and a member of the
Mates and Pilots Union. He was a member of Emmanuel
Methodist Church in Amherst.

He is survived by one son, Gordon T. Burford, Jr., of
Amherst; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Zieger and Mrs.
Beverly Mays, both of Madison Heights, and Mrs. Cynthia
Jordon of Amherst; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Drummond, Mrs.
Estelle Hill and Mrs. Althea Miller, all of Amherst;
eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at
Driskill funeral Chapel with the Revs. Randy Harlow,
Vernie Barrow and Randolph Campbell officiating.
Burial will follow in Amherst Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30
Wednesday evening at Driskill Funeral Chapel and at other
times at the Lock Lane residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Amherst Rescue
Squad.
