Dear Bonne,

While there is no definite date of birth for David, the majority of sources give circa 1799 rather than 1811. The 1860 census provides his age as 61, indicating 1799. The 1870 likewise (age 71 indicating birth ca. 1799). The 1810 census for his father Reuben lists four males all under the age of ten years, and one male (including head of Household) in the age bracket of 26-45 years. If this is correct then David would have a birth year between 1799-1810. The 1820 census indicates birth year between 1785-1794 given the age bracket of 26-45 years. 1811 occurs only in the 1850 census.

A new question: Could David Burford, Sr. have been married three times? There is a Catherine, wife of David Burford buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery next to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Armstrong County, PA. This Catherine died March 16, 1850 age 51 years 10 months (making her birth around May 1798). If this is the case, the children listed as David's may be from the first wife Catherine, with the exceptions of Franklin and Mary Jane, who may be the children of his second wife. There is no female listed in David's household in the 1850 Federal Census that is the right age to be his wife, supporting the above theory. There is a Margaret, wife of David Burford buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Armstrong County, PA. Margaret died 10 March 23, 1855 aged 41 years 1 month 4 days. Could this be his second wife? This Margaret's tombstone is in front of two more recent ones inscribed David Burford (left) and Mary A. Burford (right). The census data indicates his wife is Mary A. or Anna Mary - could this be a third wife?

I too am descended through David, through his son Andrew Jackson Burford.
