Your message struck a chord with me, and after checking my records, I am almost sure we are
related. I’ll give you some information in this message and you can tell me whether it seems to
you that we have a connection. I’ll also send you private e-mail.
The information below is derived from a single source. I have other information that augments it
and, in a few cases, conflicts with it. We can exchange information if you believe there is a
connection between our families. As I said, I’m almost sure we are related. Your Daniel appears
below as one of two children of Daniel Burgdorf and Dorothea Ties who, according to my
information, left Germany for Australia about April 1851. This is very consistent with your
approximate immigration date of 1852. I am descended from another son of Daniel Burgdorf and
Dorothea Ties, Ferdinand, who was a miller in Steinbruck, Hannover (as was his father).
Ferdinand remained in Germany his entire life, but several of his children, including his daughter
Carolina (my ancestor) immigrated to the US.
Several of we descendants of the Hannover Burgdorf(f)s in the US have found each other via the
Internet in the past year, and it is truly a thrill to find you, who seem to be descended from one of
the Burgdorf(f)s who were “lost” in Australia, as far as we were concerned! I am anxious to hear
from you, and I believe my fellow Burgdorf(f) researchers here in the States would share that
sentiment.
Incidentally, you’ll notice some schizophrenia with regard to my spelling of the name
Burgdorf(f). In our family, the name has been spelled Burgdorff (i.e., with two f’s), but others
spell the name Burgdorf, as you do.
