Although widely reported on the Internet, The parents of Thomas Burgess of Sandwich were NOT Thos B. and Eliz Pye of Truro, Cornwall. That family did have a son Thomas, but he was b. AFT 1620. Other birthplaces have been proposed, including Northamptonshire and Yorkshire, where a Thos. B. m. a Dorothy (as did the Sandwich Thos.). Thos. & Dor. of York, however, had no children. We need to look elsewhere for Thos.'s parentage and place of birth; and a DNA study, including participants from Thos.'s descendants and others from England of a similar DNA to Thomas would be of great help.

Fortunately, enough DNA samples from the various Burgess lines are available on Ysearch, to draw some preliminary conclusions. I have posted these on my website at

http://www.pcez.com/~bigshoe/du/Pery/brewster.html#9540

If you cannot access this page because of later revisions to my website, you can access the index at

Descendants of Thomas have contributed the results of their yDNA analyses to Ysearch, and I have posted what was apparently Thomas's DNA. It bears no resemblance to Burgesses from other parts of England (including Cornwall), but shows a marked resemblance to the sample of a man descended
