Although widely reported on the Internet, The parents of Thomas Burgess of Sandwich were NOT Thos B. and Eliz Pye of Truro, Cornwall. That family did have a son Thomas, but he was b. AFT 1620. Other birthplaces have been proposed, including Northamptonshire and Yorkshire, where a Thos. B. m. a Dorothy (as did the Sandwich Thos.). Thos. & Dor. of York, however, had no children. We need to look elsewhere for Thos.'s parentage and place of birth; and a DNA study, including participants from Thos.'s descendants and others from England of a similar DNA to Thomas would be of great help. Fortunately, enough DNA samples from the various Burgess lines are available on Ysearch, to draw some preliminary conclusions. I have posted these on my website at http://www.pcez.com/~bigshoe/du/Pery/brewster.html#9540 If you cannot access this page because of later revisions to my website, you can access the index at http://www.pcez.com/~bigshoe/shoegen.html Descendants of Thomas have contributed the results of their yDNA analyses to Ysearch, and I have posted what was apparently Thomas's DNA. It bears no resemblance to Burgesses from other parts of England (including Cornwall), but shows a marked resemblance to the sample of a man descended Notify Administrator about this message?
