Prof. Micheal Burgess,
Years ago we had contact regarding the line of a LEWIS ROGERS who is son of BENJAMIN ROGERS and MARGARET BURGESS and their dau. was MARY ROGERS who md. DANIEL SPORT on Dec. 19, 1830 Rowan Co. NC. Later on Mary Rogers Sport md. 2nd husband HINKLE and supposedly is on the 1850 Davies Co. NC Census with 3 children ages 18-11 with surnames of Sport and one child age 8 named Hinkle.
We also learned that LEWIS ROGERS ( s/o Benjamin Rogers/ Margaret Burgess ) had married BECKEY DOWELL and I wonder if she is the orphan ELIZABETH DOWELL mentioned in REUBEN BURGESS Will ? If so, we have since had two of our ROGERS in our ROGERS DNA group FFDNA TESTED and we match a Prof. Dowell whose lines of DOWELL were in the regions of Rowan Co. NC.
We also learned that our FFDNA to Mr. Dowell is a good match and he also has OWENS in his DOWELL lines in Rowan Co. NC as well. One of his lines is an ELIZABETH OWEN who md. PETER DOWELL who d. 1802 Rowan co. NC.
In light of the fact that orphan ELIZABETH DOWELL is listed in Rueben Burgess's will and that his grandson LEWIS ROGERS Married BECKEY DOWELL, I was wondering if you had turned up any more on the MARGARET BURGESS who married BENJAMIN ROGERS and had chldren LEWIS ROGERS and MARY ROGERS SPORT HINKLE ? We know LEWIS ROGERS died by 1820 after his grandfather REUBEN BURGESS was his bondsman on the marriage record of BECKEY DOWELL and LEWIS ROGERS in 1817.
We believe some of our FFDNA MATCHES may be in the DOWELL lines of Rowan Co. NC and we have yet to discover more on BENJAMIN ROGERS who md. MARGARET BURGESS, the daughter supposedly of RUEBEN BURGESS and MARGARET STRIBLING. Most only listed THOMAS BURGESS as the son of REUBEN BURGESS and wife MARGARET STRIBLING and so I have FFDNA MATCHES to the DOWELLS who may be interrelated to our ROGERS and that would fit to be in the BURGESS/ ROGERS/ DOWELL lines perhaps if we only had more information on MARGARET BURGESS and BENJAMIN ROGERS and their son LEWIS ROGERS and wife BECKEY DOWELL under guardianship of REUBEN BURGESS perhaps ?
Any help appreciated.
