According to some researchers, the subject of this message, "William" married Elizabeth Burgess. It is claimed their descendants live in the Marion, IN area.

This list of Revolutionary War soldiers was drawn up by Anderson Chenault Quisenberry, Secretary of War to Congress in 1835 and published later by the Kentucky Society of the American Revolution. Contains all the pensioners under the Act of March 18, 1818 and the Act of June 7, 1832. If shown, the first date is when the individual was placed on the pension rolls; the second when the pension began. Age, if shown, would be age at time of application (for the act of 1818). Dear Madam:
Reference is made to your request for information relative to William McDowell who served in the Revolutionary War and received pension while living in Gallatin County, Kentucky.
The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim, S.30590 or 80., based upon the Revolutionary War service of William McDowell
He was born in 1761 in Maryland. The exact place of his birth and the names of his parents were not given.
While a resident of Louden County, Virginia, he enlisted in April, 1780, and served three months as private in Captain Beavers company of Virginia troops under Major Quarles. He enlisted in July 1781, an served three
months as private in Captain Lewis’ Virginia company and was at the siege of Yorktown and the surrender of Cornwallis.
Soon after the termination of the Revolution he moved to Fairfax County, Virginia. He then moved back to Loudon County where he lived until 1809 when he moved to Fayette County, Kentucky. He lived there until 1825 when he moved to Gallatin County, Kentucky.
He was allowed pension on his application executed October 15, 1833, at which time he was living in Gallatin County, Kentucky.
There are no data relative to the family of William McDowell.
