I have the following as father of your John Burgin.
111171 John Burgin - Born 15 October 1774, in Rowan County. Died 22 June 1837, in Marion. He was a blacksmith. Married Elizabeth (Betsy) Man, who is buried by her husband. Married about 1795. Buried at Old Fort, Old Camp Ground Cemetery.Another reference has death date as 22 June 1832. Another reference says that he married Elizabeth Man, the daughter of John Man, who lived next to the James Burgin family in the 1810 census and that she was born about 1775, and that they married about 1798.Another reference has died 22 June 1822, married Martha Elizabeth Mann. Another reference says that he was a tanner and a blacksmith.
As for your John Burgin, I have the following.
1111711 John Burgin - Born 1799. Died 1884. Married Elizabeth Sophronia Lytle (23 July 1795 - 16 June 1837) on 25 October 1821 and Rachel Adeline Davidson (2 December 1809 - 10 November 1849) on 7 November 1837. Dates for Rachel are her tombstone; a newspaper clipping has 11 November 1849 and lists her as John's consort. Rachel was born 1809, died 184-. Note in one reference has first wife as Elizabeth Lytle. Another reference lists Elizabeth Lytle, married John Burgin, Jr., grandson of Pioneer John. Another reference says that Elizabeth bore six children and Rachel, five. Also cites the will of Samuel W. Davidson, Rachel's father, who says that he didn't like John, that John treated him badly. Listed in 1850 census as widower, aged 50, oldest child 12, baby 1 year old (named Adeline). No wife in 1860 census; no additional kids.
I hope that this helps.
Robert Burgin
