My Silas Burkes was born to Stephen Burkes and Mary ADcock Burkes in Neshoba County. He married Mollie Bailey. We called them Mammy and Pappy. Some called them Uncle Sil and Aunt Mollie. They married in 1897 and raised their family in and around Zama and Macedonia. They had 3 sons. Steve Elmo(Pat),Ellis abd my grandfather Lanny. Lanny married Lena Massey and they lived In beat 5 Attala at Pansy and later close to Macedonia. They are both buried at Macedonia. Their children were Edna Earle(Flanigan), Hilda(Gregory), Harold Allen(Hambone), James Lamar(Jack) , Hubert, and my dad Ennis(died in 1959). Lena died in 1951 and Lanny married Lucille Bain McCool and moved over to Carson Ridge close to Ethel. The Silas that married Martha Woodall I have found in 1870 and 1880 in Beat5 Neshoba and in 1900 and 1910 in beat 5 Attala.I know he and several of his children are buried at Providence. I have found a reference to Silas in Sthepen's cival war record. In one place it says that Stephen was holding a pay card for a brother,Silas.I kind of suspect that the 2 may have been brothers but can not proveabsolutely. The close proximity of the 2 families, the pay card, and also my aunts remember and refer to his children as cousins. They especially remember Tom. The J W Burkes that is buried with Silas' family at Tabernacle is my Silas' youngest brother. He was married to Sara Yates. He died young and left her with2 small children. A son Tillman and a daughter.
i wish I could tell you more about Silas and Martha. If you come across any information about them please let me know because I really believe that the two are brothers. I also suspect that the John WBurks that is buried by my Stephen may also be related to them. He had 2 daughters Ona and Docia that both married Burchfields in the 1890's. Thank you for responding
