Wharton is found in Burke Co., GA (this area became George Parish, Jefferson, Screvens, and Jenkins Co.)
Census for years 1790-1795 - Burke Co., GA Headright Grants, Wharton Vawter.
Hazel McCandless, PO Box 366, Cushing, TX and Bill Vawter, 3019 Conway St., Houston, TX, compiled some additional deed information.Bill took a long genealogical trip in the late 1970’s and recorded many deeds on Vawter/Vaughter throughout the south.
Screvens county tax records Wharton Vawter- 1791, 200 Acres and 1796, 400 acres.
Whorton Vaughter had 200 acres Screven Co. plat joined Edward Hill on one side and own land on one side and on one side vacant land.Surveyed 1795.

Deveuax, Adm. for Ann Deveuax.Witness Richard Johnston Vaughter, Recorded 1802.(Hazel and Bill surmised that Richardwas the son of John of Stokes Co., NC later Elbert Co., GA.He likely left NC with Wharton and together they came to GA.John, the father of Richard did not arrive in GA until about 1808.John and Richard the sons of John of Elbert Co., GA are next seen in Williamson Co., TN in 1812.)

This could mean several things, that the paper work is illegible, that she was heir and legitimate receiver of the land drawing or drew under her own name.The 1827 deed in Effington may be where she sold theland.

Elizabeth married Anderson Williams and is possibly the dau. of Bartholomew Vaughter found in SC and a sister of Cornelius H. Vaughter m. Mary Anne McGrew, who is found in SC/GA/AL. Cornelius the son of Bartholomew Vawter, vintner of SC.Possibily connected to Wharton Vawter seen in this same area of GA during this time.
