Cindy-first thanks for the reply.
I probably should have been a bit more specific, but I gained new information-anyhow.
David Newsome Burkhalter's son David Crockett Newsom Burkhalter born 1841 Wrightsboro, Baldwin, Ga died 8 Jul 1910 Americus, Sumter, Ga.
He married 6 Feb 1868 Sumter Co. Ga.Rebecca Alberta Brown born 8 Jun 1650 Marion Co. Ga. died 9 Sep 1879 Silver Springs Fl. She was the child of my ancestor George A. Brown born 1826 Greene Co. Ga. died Tues. Aug.20 1:30 PM 1878 -in Americus, Sumter, Ga. (CSA/Judge/ City Clerk)& Julia P. Raines born 1829-d 1852 Marion Co. Ga.
George was the son of William M. Brown murdered/poisioned in Sumter 1870-but actually lived Marion, and was head of a committee after the war to try to settle problems.
SO- I was hoping to maybe track some of the famil of Harriet and John Wesley- to see if maybe they had ties to this family (Kids, grandkids, desc. etc.)
John Wesley Brown-I find-online-was the son of Joseph and Mary Brown- of Talbot Co. Ga. (Where some of my Brown's were too) and Mary Brown- two Brown's...
Grandchild of Joseph Brown & Sarah McElwee , Henry Brown & Catherine.
Harriet, I have a wee bit different, but since it is not my line, (And even if it was) I could be wrong.
We agree more or less on John Burkhalter-Rev Sol.Show born SC died Marion Co. Ga.22 Mar 1861-we agree on wife and two husbands.
Looks like the person I got it from-may have skipped the next generation-John Sr.and gone on to Michael and Martha Newsome was the only wife I showed- will need to look into that-and the sources I got it from.
I have this little bit on Michael:
Michael Buckhalter (1725-1828) served as private in the Georgia troops under General Clarke at Kettle Creek and at the siege of A DAR Application of Molly Brown
Some of them showed a bit of conflict too-like
IGI has a David Burkhalter born 1759 Ga died 19 Jun 1848 child of Michael Burkhalter & Ann Denzler
In Buena Vista, Marion by 1850
Columbus Inquirer gives his age at death as 98.
This from Judith Gresham-agrees in part:
The John Burkhalter, Martha is living with is her brother. John Burkhalter, Jr. son of John Burkhalter and Sarah Milledge, Martha mother was Ann A. Newsome. The cemetery originally was called "Buena Vista Methodist Cemetery" in Nettie Powells book "History of Marion County" the is a paragraph about the chapter placing a government marker on his grave on December 8, 1916 and the ceremony that went with it.
John's daughter Avarilla who is also listed on the census with Martha and he was a widow of a soldier of the War of 1812 and was drawing a pension from the United States Government this was between 1880 and 1890 according to Mrs. Powells book.
She also states that Bob Weed on here-has posted a lot.(And that she thinks I am missing a generation-as you see above)
I also cut and pasted the ref. I found, but have not to date seen them. We may have a few in the library.
Thanks again for sharing.
Ms. Gerry (Brown) Hill
