FYI - The DAR once again recognizes John Burkhalter, Jr. (1763-1861), of Wilkes/Warren County as a Patriot of the American Revolution! I haven't been able to prove he was in Elijah Clarke's militia, but at least they recognize his patriotic service because of the land grant he received. Family lore says that he galloped into the aftermath of the Battle of Kettle Creek in Georgia at the age of 15 aftern his father was brought home wounded. The British captured him, but he escaped. I have learned a bit about the Burkhalters in this area of Georgia and will be happy to work with anyone else doing research in this area.
