The best memory I have of Carl Burkardt (brother of Adolph) is that he was a pilot during WW2, and dropped aid to Germany during that time. Our family has never varied, to my knowledge, from our spelling. Carl was married in Germany to his first wife, I don't know her name. He was later married to Angela, who he met in the USA and they both went back, happily, to Germany and (as they say) lived happily ever after. I wish I knew their story!
