James N. Burn, Washington, DC b. 1828
I trace my Burn family to James N. Burn born 1828 in Virginia. He married Martha Danford in D.C.
His son was James D. Burn born 24 May 1863 in D.C.
James D. & Lottie (Dant) Burn had
Lotta Isabel m. John M. Kemper (my grandparents)
James Frederick m. Mary Thompson
Lester Truman Burn m. Susanne Kirby
I have a medal from the battle of Trafalger with the name James Burn engraved on the side. It was given to my father by his Uncle who said it was his Great Grandfathers who fought with Lord Nelson at the battle of Trafalger.
My theory and it is only a theory, is that the N in
James N. Burn could stand for Nelson after Lord Admiral Nelson.
Knowing the importance of surnames & how families used them to name their children, I have come to believe we are somehow related to the famous David Burn, headache to George Washington!
My Uncle's name was Lester Truman Burn, my cousin is Truman Burn. The names of Orme, Greenfield, Truman, Beall, Cross, Berkeley, Flemming, Minnix, Danford and Smoot all come up in my research, but I can not find the connection.
Does anyone know who James N. Burns parents were? He died 18 Aug 1905. He is buried in Congressional cemetery with his wife Martha Danford Burn.
Martha M. Danford was listed as Mrs. Danford on the marriage record.
James N. Burn was living with James & Ann Danford and Maria Burn in 1860 DC census. No Martha.
It could be possible Ann Danford was married to a Burn and remarried Danford.
My fathers name was James Danford Kemper b. 6 Aug 1917 in D.C. d. 29 Dec 2005 in Bethesda, Md.
Thanks for any help you can send my way!
