As a young man, he worked in several different saw and planing mills. He also worked as a building material salesman for the L.H.Bradway Company of North Windham and Hancock Lumber Company. He attended the Steep Falls Baptist Church and had been very active with both the Cub Scouts and was a Boy Scout Leader. He coached both little league baseball and the Babe Ruth baseball programs and served as president of both George E. Jack and Bonny Eagle Parents Clubs. He was a very talented woodworker and completed many projects at and around his home. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, tying flies, and playing golf. Even with all his involvements, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family.
