Better late than never with this reply, but you might find your Margaret was indeed a sister to Rabbie Burns' mother
Agnes Brown's mother (Agnes Rennie) died in 1742. Her father Gilbert remarried.
Agnes was baptised in 1732, her sister Janet in 1734, John in 1736, Samuel in 1739, and David in 1741. Some sources say she actually had four brothers and three sisters.
Her father, Gilbert, went on to father more children to the second wife - Andrew in 1745, Hugh 1747, Jean 1750. A Gilbert Brown also fathered Margaret Brown in 1766, James in 1768 and Christian in 1771. Whether this is the same Gilbert Brown, Ive yet to determine. They were both certainly from Kirkoswald.
