Well,my greatgrandfather William Burns was born abt 1834,and in censuses he reported that he was born in VA.,his father in Scotland, and his mother in Penn.Cherokee ancestry was involved somehow.I just wonder if he was trying to downplay the Cherokee ancestry by reporting this, because I have searched everywhere for YEARS and cannot find him in any place he reported!!!
I do know that he married in 1864 in LaSalle Co.,Illinois,so unless he was there alone,he must have had Burnes relatives somewhere in the area.By 1880 he and his family had moved to Mercer Co.,Mo. and then finally Benton Co.,Mo.
To complicate matters even more,my other Burns line was that of a William John Burns born in KY,maybe Grant Co., about 1796 and fought in the Black Hawk War in Illinois and eventually settled in Benton Co.,Mo. !!!Too many coincidences!!!
