I have a James Burnes who would fit the time period. And he was killed in the Civil War. I thought his wife was Eliza McNealy,though.
He was a son of William John Burnes and Mary Hutchison. If we are talking about the same James Burnes,he was born about 1829 in Ky.He and wife had a son William A. who had a daughter Nannie.I think he is buried in Camden Co.,Mo.
