I am trying to find information which would help establish whether Greenbury Burnett, son of Matthew Burnett(who was the son of John Burnett, Sr. and Mary Morgan) and Elizabeth Clark, was the father of my great-grandmother, Martha Jane Burnett who was born in Hawesville, Hancock County, KY, on 7 Apr 1841 (she married Joseph Tomlinson in Cannelton, Perry County, on 19 Jun 1959). Greenbury lived in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, in the 1820's and in Hancock County, Kentucky, in the 1830s-1840s. He was married first to a Nancy Gibson (children David, Martin Van Buren, and Lucinda, William Gibson, and others?). Greenbury married second a Lucinda Stephens in 1841 and again in 1845 (apparently divorcing her in between)and the family lived in Deer Creek Township, Perry County, Indiana, in 1850 according to the census (children listed on that census were James, Lucind, Martha, Phebe, and Ruth). I have not been able to find out whether Martha Jane Burnett was the daughter of Greenbury and spouse Nancy or Lucinda (or another woman?) as family lore has Martha possibly adopted by the Burnett family and having Native American blood. Greenbury also may have married a Mrs. Mary Ellen Richey in 1857. A Lucinda Burnett married a William LaRue in 1854 but I haven't been able to determine whether this was Greenbury's ex-wife or daughter, or other relation. There also seems to be a connection with Greenbury Burnett and a William W. Badger, to whom Martha Jane was indentured in the early 1850s. William W. Badger was married in 1842 to a Mary Ann Burnett and in 1877 to a Minerva Jane Burnett. Does anyone have any further information about Martha Jane, Greenbury, or other members of this family??
