Hi
Mary Boram married“Mr. Bortis”who wasnot Samuel Burtis. Samuel was her son.
Please view the posts for “ William Henry Burtis Annapolis/Boram Family Maryland”
Most likely Mary (1807/09-17 May 1895) marr. James (Jim) Burtis.
Of the claimed 10 Burtis childrenone son was William H. Burtis (1836-1910) and another son was Samuel H. Burtis (1829-1915)
Marywas daughter of William Brooks, she married 2) Abraham Boram between 1836 and1841 and had three livingBoram children. In her obituary in the Baltimore Sun 24 May 1895 it is saidshe had 13 children, seven who survived her; four sons and three daughters, the names of the daughters are not given and only three sons are mentioned, William Burtis ,Samuel Burtis and son Thomas J. Boram, with whom she had lived at time of her death. Some of the items in her obituary like living on a farm in Ohio and helping to kill a bear in her youth show noevidence or family supported stories I have nearly nothing on her “large family”, except that aWilliam Brooks appears in Maryland Census 1820 with no data and that Thomas J. Boram lived for a while on his uncle's farm in Ohio where he learned to ride and shoot.
In the census of 1850 in Baltimore Mary is listed as born in England and being illiterate. Children age 5,3 and 1. Mary’s age is 43.
Mary had 2 Boram daughters Lucy who died before 1871 and Phoebewho died 1875. The Baltimore line starts with Abraham Boram (1789/90- 7 Mar. 1871) son of William Boerum (yes the spelling changed) and goes back to progenitor Willem Jacobsze van Boerum (1616-1688)
Do you know the last name of Samuel Burtis Sr. wife Mary.?What was Samuel Burtis Jr. wife’s name(O’Grady?) and dates? Did your Samuel have those possible children in the census of 1910?
Greetings, Barbara
