BURTWELL was BRIGHTWELL in 1632
First let me say hello to all my Burtwell cousins.I have been following the forum since it started and have enjoyed all your imput.
I have received from my aunt (Burtwell) a copy of a document obtained in England during the Second World War by my cousin Charles Oliver Burtwell. In England he met with Burtwells in a Tavern and brought back to Canada, this document showing the ancestory of our family back to Charles Burtwell 1789-1845 and Elizabeth Potter 1788-1840.
On the back of this document is written
"Burtwell is derived from Anglo-Saxon word meaning Clear Stream later changed to Brightwell and eventially to Burtwell in 1632"
This name information may help in research of early Burtwell's
Also on the back of this document is written
Frederick Burtwell
11 Lyndale Ave, NW2
London, England.
My question to the forum is where does Frederick fit into the family tree?
Charles' granddaughter has written the forum and is Nicole Verlie Burtwell. She also has this same information.
