I am originally from Syracuse, where all of my relatives still live, and my paternal grandmother's name was Bustin. Maybe there is a link between our families. Here is some information on my Bustin ancestors:

John Bustin, b. abt 1803, Limerick, Ireland, d. 21 June 1900. Married Margaret (?), b. abt. 1806, Limerick, Ireland, d. 15 Nov 1888. Parents of:

John Bustin, b. abt. 1848, d. 9 Oct 1899 in New York State. Said to have been a Seaman on the USS Pittsburgh. Married Margaret Ellicott. Parents of:

John Bustin, d. 04 October 1931. Never married. Had a camp in the Adirondack Mountains of NY, where he is said to have been a trapper.

Nellie Bustin; married Kirk A. Phelps; d. sometime before 1954.

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bustin, b. 28 November 1868 in Illinois, d. 21 November 1940 in Syracuse NY; m. Thomas Dineen abt. 1890; children Florence, Evelyn, Charles, Eleanor Dineen.

Sarah (Sadie) Bustin, b. December 1876, NYS, d. 05 March 1956. Married to George Menikheim; married to Thomas Brennan, their son was Howard Brennan.

Mabel Bustin, b. March 1879, d. aft. 1954; m. Albert Rivenburg; their children were Florence and Viola Riverburg.

Coraline (Cora) Bustin, b. 04 July 1882; d. 04 November 1954, Syracuse, NY; m. Franklin John Brady abt. 1902; these are my father's parents.

I found some other information on Bustins in the Syracuse area but I don't know if there is any connection to my family. Buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Dewitt (Syracuse area): Bustin, George 1880-1913; Bustin, James 1873-1881; Bustin, Mary 1845-1928; and Bustin, Michael 1850-1923.

Hope this is of some help. I have some other information on Bustins from NYS census research.

Could there be a connection between our families?
