I have traced my lineage to one Thomas Butner Jr. who was the son of Thomas Butner Sr. and his wife Sars Elrod. According to the Moravian Archives in Winston-Salem Thomas Sr. was born April 9, 1741 in Maryland and died May 27, 1781 and is buried in Hope NC.

An Adam Buttner was envolved in a court action in Frederick Maryland in 1750 with, among others, testimony from Catherine Buttner, James Buttner, Leah Buttner, Martha Buttner and Jeremiah Elroad. This last name is similar to Elrod, Thomas Sr. wife's maiden name.

Thomas Butner Sr. spoke English, indicated that he was raised in the English High Church and claimed to be English.

Do you have any information that would confirm that the Father of Thomas Sr. was Adam Buttner?

Robert Butner
