The following information is from “Land Deed Genealogy of Coffee County, Tennessee (1843-1850) Vol. # 2”

Page 97 - We, F.J.M. Butner and William Butner, have this day sold unto Eli Lorenzo Dow Butner a tract of land in Coffee County and District No. 4, containing 40 acres. Beginning in John Walker's south boundary line 25 yards north from the north west corner of the house in which said F.J.M. Butler now lives, running west 40 poles to Critendon's line, thence south 74 9/25 poles, thence east 86 poles, thence north 74 9/25 poles to Walker's line, thence west 46 poles to beginning, including the improvments. This 19 June 1845.
Wit: J. L. Short Signed: F.J.M. Butler
Wm. M. Toliver Wm. Butner
Reg: 19 June 1845

The discrepancies in this transcription are not mine. The transcriber from the original document wrote Butler for Butner and I believe F.J.M. Butner should read J.J.M. Butner.
Questions: Was William Butner a brother of James J. McIntire Butner or his father?
I have Eli Lorenzo Dow Butner as being born in 1840. Was this a legal sale or was there another Eli Lorenzo Dow Butner, perhaps a brother of J.J.M. Butner?
