Obit-Robert Melvin Johnson

I am looking for any information regarding the death of Robert Melvin Johnson. He died in California in September of 1946. He was born in 1923 in Iowa and had been in the Navy.

Story has it he was murdered outside of a bar somewhere.

This was after he stopped a fight or altercation in a bar.

Family stories do not jive and I want to know the truth.

Robert was my dad's brother.

His parents where Albert Melvin and Ida Dorsett Johnson.

Any help newspaper article or obit, death certificate.
