Thank you so much for the tip on Dit names.
I found a half dozen sites that I read and found it fascinating. Information derived indicates that the name Mary was probably Marie. 4/5 of girls were named Marie and then a name to distinguish from the other Maries.
4/5 of Boys were name Joseph and then a name to distinguish them. Paul is a common short form for Napoleon. Ois means "of" so the common name Francois means "of France".

To complicated matters more, Sansoucy was a dit name meaning carefree. So we don't really have a clue as to the family name of the Sansoucies'. Look at www.afgs.org/termphira.html to understand the Laviole/Laviolette syndrome. I had no idea, when I started this pursuit, how difficult or interesting it would be.
