Hello, This may be a weird request. I am not related to the Cabaniss line, but about 10 years ago my family purchased a house in Hazel Green, Alabama (in an area that used to be known as Fisk) and realized shortly after that we had a graveyard in the back yard. Due to the construction company moving most of the headstones the graveyard is in disarray and we aren't sure how many are buried there, from what we can tell it is atleast 10 people. With a little research we found that it is called Cabaniss Cemetary and that a Cabiness family used to own the land that our home is built on. All I can find on them is a brief mention of a historical marker, that apparently is no longer standing either. The only name I have come up with is the one listed in the mention...a Charles Cabaniss, I have found where a Charles Cabaniss from the North Alabama area served as a private in the 7TH REGIMENT (PERKINS' BATTALION) OF MISSISSIPPI MILITIA. Site of Cabaniss Cotton Spinning Factory One mile east of here stood the first known Cotton Spinning Factory in Alabama, erected by Charles Cabaniss in 1817-18. (Located on east side of Meridianville Highway near Fisk) When I looked further into Charles Cabaniss I found this listing Charles P. Cabaniss, (b. 22 DEC 1773 -- Amelia County, Virginia/ d. 20 MAR 1825 -- Hazelgreen, Madison County, Alabama) Spouse-LUCY WORSHAM INGRAM Parents- CHARLES CABANISS, ANN HAYES I was hoping you might more information on Charles Cabaniss, maybe it's weird, but we'd kind of like to know who we are sharing the yard with! :0) Thanks!
