Thank you for your response. My mother did alot of research on the Caddell clan and I know that William Murrell, Jr. was very helpful to her.
I am involved in helping research the folks who are buried in oldest cemetery in Belton, Texas. The only person there who carries the Caddel name is MARY CADDEL, who was the wife of John Calvin Caddell, son of Capt. Andrew. She is buried with her first husband and her mother, Sarah McAnulty. In the process of finding these 2 ladies, we discovered that a whole group of people connected to Capt. Andy's branch of the family are there with them. Sarah McAnulty was William Murrell's ancestor and I was hoping I could talk to him about where his great grandmother, Matilda McAnulty Elliott, is buried. I also need to verify that another tombstone is for a child of the Elliott couple that we had not heard of till now.
The cemetery has lain neglected for many years, but the Sons of the Confederacy have taken a hand in restoration and the City of Belton has joined in. Many stones have been vandalized and/or destroyed, but the remaining ones are being cleaned and re-set. Those that need it, have been pieced together before being reset. There are plans to have a tour guide written for some of the burials that we can find information about. The Caddell connections are buried together and, for the most part, the stones are intact or at least, readable.
The writing is being done by one of local historians who has already put together a book on the cemetery and some of its "inhabitants". Since I have my mother's books, I have been able to tie these people together for her and identify their spouses, siblings, etc. One is a San Jacinto veteran. There are veterans of the War of 1812, the Indian Wars, Texas Revolution, Civil War, and WWI. I don't remember if any other wars are represented.
This is too long, I realize, but I wanted you to know that I have a legitimate reason for searching for a descendant of Richard Caddell and Sarah Elliott. Thanks again and I'll keep trying.
Sarah
