Hello Rachel,
I just revisited this site and found your message - apologies for delay. Yes. I think we may have a Caddy/Sugnall connection here.

Thomas Caddy was born 29th of December 1799, to Joseph and Elizabeth Beeston. (This may well be Beesting)This Joseph born 31.12.1775 at Charnes, Joseph Caddy Married Elizabeth Beeston on 31.10.1797. Charnes. Joseph's father, also a Joseph Caddy, born circa 1753/55, married Ann Henshall on the 24th December 1770. At Whittington by special licence. Several children. Not sure where this all originated from but details from my notes notes of 25 years ago, probably from Lichfield or Thomas Salt or Stafford Office. Notes from 26 years ago.

Have not tracked down Thomas's first marriage.

Thomas Caddy and Hannah Billing married in the September quarter in 1838, Date of marriage 30th September. Stone District entry 173, volume 17. Eccleshall Parish Church. Thomas was a WIDOWER. Hannah a Servant and a Spinster, he a Labourer, both of Bromley and both full age. I have a copy of their wedding cert. Thomas's father was stated as being JOSEPH Caddy (deceased) and Hannah's father Joseph Billing. Also deceased. Interestingly the witnesses on the certificate were another Joseph Caddy and one Thos. Smith. Their daughter Martha was born April 13th 1839.

Henry Caddy was the son of Martha Caddy. His mother, Martha Caddy was the child of the above Thomas and Hannah Caddy (formerly Billing) and she was born on April 13th 1839 at Sugnall, Eccleshall. Father was a Labourer. Martha's son Henry has proved elusive, I found a baptism entry for Silverdale December 2nd 1857 giving a Henry being baptised, parents Martha and Edward (A Baker) Caddy. There is however no entry of registration of the birth - not unusual at that time. I have searched far and wide. Actually this baptism entry is probably a partial fib because Martha was apparently single at the time of Henry's birth. Martha married, two years later, in 1859, to one Henry Head and gave herself as Spinster at that time. Married at St.John's Wolverhampton January 24th 1859. At full age. Father Thomas Caddey. Her name is recorded as Martha Caddey. In the 1861 census Henry appears as Henry Head - with several younger brothers and sisters and it was only by the mention of his birth being at Silverdale and Martha's being at Sugnall on this census that I tracked some of this down a quarter of a century back. By the time Henry Caddy/Head married on August 20th 1877 he had reverted to his name of Henry Caddy. He married one Amy Davenport. At St. Stephen's Parish Church, Willenhall, Staffs (now West Midlands). Unfortunately poor Martha was not able to attend the wedding because, sadly, she had died five days prior to the wedding at the early age of 38 of heart disease on the 15th of August of that same year, 1877. Henry gave hs age as being 21 at that date. He also gave his father's name as Thomas a labourer. My grandfather Frederick Henry Caddy was born to Henry and Amy Caddy on February 13th 1878.

My name was Christine Caddy before marriage.
