Annie:

Thanks so much. That's pretty much it. Fortunat is the son of Napoleon Cadieux and Rosalie Lanier, and moved here in about 1912. I'm a grand-daughter of Louis Edourd Cadieux married to Ruth Wentworth - often went to Holyoke to visit my great aunts but have no recollection of every meeting Fortunat. Right now I'm stuck on his WWI history. He is listed as an alien on his WWI enlistments papers. He traveled on the Carpathian, also listed as an alien arriving in Liverpool from NY 16 May, 1918. We don't know when he arrived in France, but did find a listing in the book Holyoke in the Great War, serving in company C of the 321st Infantry as a corporal. In looking through the regimental records, we do not find his name listed. Do you know if there were any special circumstances if you were not a naturalized citizen? For someone unrelated to the family, you have a fabulous grasp of the ins and outs, and so I'm assuming that you're pretty skilled at research. Should I just go straight to the National Archives, or are there other sources that you might recommend. Thank you so much for your very detailed and helpful answer.
