South Dakota
ok, here is what i got for the Cadottes in South Dakota
my great grandparents were
Raymond Cadotte (b. 23 feb 1909, d. Jan 1981) married to Melda (Demery or DeMarris) Cadotte (b. 31 Dec 1914 d. 22 Feb 1992)
Raymond had one brother Leo (b. 29 June 1902 d. June 1982)
His parents were Hattie (Mclean or McClain)Cadotte (b. 27 Aug 1881 d. May 1970) fathers name was john, and Johns fathers name was possibly john as well.
There are several irish connections as well.
The Irish comes from several sources, according to mom. Melda's maiden name was DeMarris, a French-Canadian name. Her father was French (French-Canadian) and Irish, raised in British Columbia. He spoke only French, no English. He was not First-Nations in heritage. His wife was part French-Canadian and Irish, and also Ojibwe (Chippewa). But the main source would probably be Raymond Cadotte's mother, Hattie McClain (spelling?). The Cadotte name, commonly pronounced "ca-DOT" but originally pronounced "ca-DO-tay", was handed down by Raymond's Lakota and French-Canadian father John Cadotte.
But i am still looking to see where this gets me!
oh, but i would like to know if anyone knows any more about this.
