Dear Sandra...Yes, I have heard of Caffey's Inlet. I was discussing Caffey genealogy and the Eastern Shore of Maryland with a fellow who was working at the small but quaint Dewitt Museum on Virginia Beach, VA. He asked me if I knew of Caffey's Inlet and showed me where it USED to be. Seems it closed itself in during a storm and is no longer an inlet. As I recall it was an inlet through the barrier island now designated as Assateague Island National Seashore. I believe it was located in Maryland toward the southern tip of the island. It could have also been in VA at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge at the southern tip of the same island. It will probably show on maps made in the early 1900's. I saw it on a map the gentleman had at the museum.
I didn't follow up on which Caffey it was named after but that may be an interesting question for which to have the answer.
Robert Banta.....a Caffey through Michael, John Thomas, Hooper, Andrew J., Albert S. Caffey, Alice Frances Caffey (my mother)
