Quilting, lunch, business meeting and signing of many greeting cards were activities of the day. The ladies put in a postage stamp quilt for me that went through the 1936 tornado at Rader. I don’t know where they found the quilt top, but my dear friend and cousin, Reba Keesling, who lost her life in the tornado, had pieced most of the quilt top and her mother, Aunt Dora Keesling, finished it up, then gave it to me as a memory keepsake of Reba’s, this treasure of mine. Attending were: Bertha and Betty Terry, Chloetta Buttram, Leona and Barbara Medlock, Anna Lee Jacobson, Mary Stillwell, Margaret Wantland, Winnie Lowe, Lois and Hazel Lee, and Sue Brisbois.

Mr. and Mrs. Ikerd met in front of the old Conway Store. After several years of dating, they decided to get married on October 29, 1929. Together they had four kids, one of whom is deceased. Now they have nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Thora said that it was kind of unique that it was raining on their anniversary, because it was also raining on the day they got married

Program Chairman, Russell King, planned the program around the timing of a regular school day with the pledge to the flag and singing of patriotic hymns. After the noon hour blessing by Bill Bohannon, former student, sack lunches brought from home were enjoyed. This was such a successful idea and fun time! Even an Oklahoma watermelon was enjoyed. There were plenty of ice cold drinks on hand for such a hot day. A roving reporter, Emma Davis Burrell, Strafford, reported to the afternoon meeting about the special memories of school days she had obtained as she talked to each one, which was an enjoyable, fun time. The last teacher to teach before consolidation was Ellen Gray Massey. Another reunion is set for October, 1998 with date to be announced later. Thanks to all who helped to initiate this reunion and get it going. Dream time was over; it was an actuality!
