Richard de Keynes of CAHAGNES (Calvados) was granted lands at Horsted Keynes, Dodford Northamtonshire,Winkley in Somerset and elsewhere by William 1. The surname was not uncommon in Somerset and Wiltshire to the 1800's. Ourside of the family seem to originate in Somerset, then in Wiltshire and finally to the Isle of Wight.
