Actually, Sarah Adeline Boyd had been married prior to marrying William Henry Caines. Her first husband (named Hardee) was killed as he tried to make an arrest as the family story goes. Henry was my grandfather and my father is one of George's younger brothers. George had a half-brother named Lewis Hardee and a half sister named Sally Hardee. There were nine siblings in the William Henry and Adeline (Addie) marriage. George was one of the older ones. His brother Oliver served in WWI and had great difficulty re-adjusting to civilian life though he lived for many years. All of the siblings are now dead with the last one, Arlene, having died in the last year or so. The family resided in the Beulah community of Horry County near Loris, SC. In fact my brother currently resides where George Caines was born though it is not the original house. My mother has a picture of Grandmother Addie showing the side of the old house. If you wish more information about this branch of the family, I can probably suggest some leads.

Royce Caines
