Hello Ngaire,
I am also a descendant of Abraham Hunt.
I have spent many years researching the Hunt family and I have uncovered many things along the way that certain relatives have been determined to hide.
One of the biggest “scandals” that I uncovered was the fact that this line of the Hunt family is of Jewish ancestry!
Believe me, certain relatives haven’t spoken to me since I revealed this “shame” to the rest of the family!
As it so happens I am extremely proud of my Jewish ancestry.
Silly thing is that even before I found the proof, there were a countless amount of hints such as the fact that many of the Hunts worked as shopkeepers, stationers, etc.
Plus Hebrew names such a Salome, Keptha, Lyddy, etc are also kind of a giveaway ;)

Anyway, here’s the information I have on Abraham.
----------------------------------------------------
Abraham Hunt was born in Little Glemham on 6 of May 1804 to William and Susan (nee Birch) Hunt.
He was baptised on June 17th 1804.

According to Parish records at Little Glemham Abraham’s siblings were:

John baptised 19th December 1790
Lyddy bn 26th Oct 1792 bap 3rd Feb 1793
Elizabeth bn 17th Sept 1794 bap 12th Oct 1794
Thomas bn 3rd July bap 31st July 1796
Hannah bn 31st Dec 1797 bap 28th Jan 1798
Keptha bn 6th Sept 1802 received into church 10th October 1802
Robert bn 23rd Jan 1806 bap 6th March 1806

Abraham married Frances Hannah Cakebread on Jan. 23, 1826 in Christ Church Greyfriars Newgate, London, England.
Through different stages of his life he worked as a Stationer, Printer and Shop Keeper.
Together he and Frances had 10 children, many of whom died when they were young.
Thomas George Hunt was born on Feb. 24, 1839 and died on Mar. 25, 1894.

William Abraham Hunt was born on Apr. 8, 1827 and died on Apr. 20, 1872.

Frances Martha Hunt was born on Jan. 13, 1829 and died in Oct. 1833.

Edward Hunt was born on May 22, 1831 in Bow, Middlesex and died on Apr. 2, 1832.
Thomas Hunt was born on Dec. 6, 1832 and died on Nov. 6, 1833.

Frances Elizabeth Hunt was born on Jul. 18, 1835 and died on May 26, 1863.

Elizabeth Milescent Hunt was born on Apr. 18, 1837 and died on Jul. 18, 1864.

Alfred Hunt was born on Oct. 14, 1841 and died on Jun. 22, 1843.

Alfred Strong Hunt was born on Nov. 18, 1843 and died on Aug. 11, 1854.

Martha Salome Hunt was born on Apr. 14, 1846 and died on Apr. 18, 1847.

Abraham and his son William Abraham went into business as printers, booksellers and stationers under the name Hunt and Son.
Their business was located at 47 High Street, Bow, Middlesex,
According to records they mutual dissolved the business on December 31 1867.

Frances died in Witham Essex and was buried 29 May 1877.
I have no information on her birth or who her parents/siblings were as the parish records for Harlow, Essex were stolen many years ago and have never been recovered.

According to the 1881 Census, Abraham remarried to a woman named Rebecca Robins.
It is also recorded that they had a general servant living with them.

Abraham HUNT Head M Male 76 Glenham, Suffolk, England Retired Stationer

Rebecca HUNT Wife M Female 63 Bow, Middlesex, England

Louisa FRENCH Serv U Female 15 Sibil Hedingham, Essex, England Genrl Serv

Abraham died on the 12th of July 1885 and Rebecca died on the 18th of April 1887.

Hope this helps.

Robert H.
