Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is history that freed slaves took the surnames of their owners. However, it is also history that many slave owners fathered their slave's children or caucasian males had children with African American women. This is most definately true. My mother's ancestors were mixed with white blood...their is no doubt about that.

So it's more than a matter of being given the Calcote name, but also being given their genes.

I would be interested in getting a copy of your book re: the Calcote history. Do you still have copies available and how can I obtain one?
