A couple of years ago I asked about a Calcott in Charles City Co VA in the early 1600s - see http://genforum.genealogy.com/calcote/messages/59.html
There have been a number of, slightly contradictory postings on the Harris GenForum confirming that a John Harris married a Dorothy Calcott, with Harris descendents. She is variously given as born 1588, 1594 or 1600, and died perhaps 1638 (but then her husband is also givern as 1588-1638, so that must be very speculative. She is also described as "Dorothy Calcott or Lymbrey".
Some Harris research indicates that the John Harris/Dorothy Calcott marriage was in England and that they went to Virginia in 1622, see for example http://www.patch.net/related/harris.html . On the other hand others claim that the marriage was in Virginia in c1610, see http://www.patch.net/harfam/pegg141.html
This latter date would fit better with her being the daughter of William Callicutt, goldsmith, who went to Virginia in 1608 on "second supply ship", see http://www.gbnf.com/genealog4/manning/html/d0561/I66075.HTM
This man is mentioned in the Travels of Captain John Smith - see near the end of http://www.webroots.org/library/usahist/ghov1-05.html
Perhaps this is all a red herring in looking for our elusive Hercules Calcote!
