I wonder whether there is any connection with:
James Calcut, a widower with four young children, who died in Marion SC in 1820. His late wife was Mary who died after 1813, and the children were James (born after 1806), William (1809), Hannah (born c1810), Jane (c1811). The 4 orphans stayed in Marion district until their majority when they went to NC (where some of them may well have been born around Lafayetteville). Jane was my wife's gt gt grandmother and died in 1895 in Brazil.
