Some of our relatives have been researching this family of Colquit/Colquett also. They have come up with clues that somewhere between South Carolina and Alabama in the 1800's, the name of Calcot/Calcut became Colquett; as in Dr. William Bethea Calcut, versus Dr. William Bethea Colquett.
Just a thought. Several families are doing more research.
