Thanks for your info, Peter. I must certainly try to get hold of that book. All of my Calderwood family seem to have lived in and around the Glasgow/Clydeside area - even to this day. I looked up old birth and marriage records on the Website "Scots Origins" - do you know it? (Well worth a couple of pounds to download some records!)
It seems John was a very common Calderwood name - there are dozens of them and it is easy to get confused.
