I believe that John Calderwood of Big Beaver was my gggg-grandfather. My ggg-grandmother was Mary Jane Calderwood Chesney. Her family came over from the port of Newry, Ireland on the ship Wellington in 1816, arriving at Philadelphia on August 5. On the ship's passenger list are: John Calderwood, Mary Calderwood, Agnes Calderwood, Isabella Calderwood, Elizabeth Calderwood, Jemina Calderwood, William McChesny, Jane McChesny, Robert McChesny, Isabella McChesny and John McChesny. My gg-grandfather John Chesney (born in 1815) was raised in or near Philadelphia. His father William died in Philadelphia when John was still young. He learned blacksmithing from a Quaker in Lancaster County, and later moved to Rose Point, Lawrence County, where he had his own blacksmith shop. He married Catharine Stoner there around 1840. They raised 5 boys and 4 girls. In 1840 his mother, Jane Chesney was still listed in the Philadelphia census. By 1850 she was in New Castle. She died in 1851.

In 1985 my father corresponded with a Calderwood descendent from Grove City and she gave hime some genealogy. Her tree identified 5 Calderwood siblings coming from Coleraine, Ireland in 1812: 1. Andrew--a watchmaker in Philadelphia, not married; 2. Hugh (1756-1847) married Mary Nesbit (Nesbet); 3. John (see below); 4. William, lived in New Castle; and 5. Nancy, married Joseph Lawson.

John, she said, lived in New Galilee, PA and had the following children: 1. Nancy--married John Davis; 2. Isabella--married Robert Gray; 3. Catherine(?)--married ? Blackwood; 4. Jane--married William McChesney, 5. Mary--married ? Boak

This corresponds well with both your will information and my passenger list. (Nancy is a nickname for Agnes.) If you have any additional information about these people I would be very interested.

Also, I can't attest to the validity of the information, but I have many more names and dates from the Grove City family tree.
