Dear Barbara,

I tried sending another e-mail, but I guess it didn't go through either. Is the address that comes up when I click on your name correct? My grandmother Rose Ruetta Johnson was born in 1819 in Appanoose County Iowa. She graduated from William Woods College in 1905. She was a missionary for the Disciples of Christ Church in Japan from 1906 to 1912. She returned home to take care of her mother, always intending to return to Japan some day. The family story goes that she was working as a traveling salesperson selling encyclopedias. When she got off of the train in New Brighton PA she said to herself " I don't like this town, I don't think I will stay here very long." She checked into the ladies boarding house in town, and asked the landlady where the local Disciples of Christ Church was. The landlady immediately ran over to the gentlemen's boarding house, and told the landlady there, "I've found a lady for your Mister Calderwood!" Rose and Jess were married in 1918 their first daughter Laura Jane was born in 1919, and their second daughter Ruth Anne (my mother)was born in 1921. My grandfather died before I was born. My grandmother died in 1955. If you would like more information I can be reached at apeabrain@yahoo.com.
