One of the most notable weddings of the week was that which joined together to the holy bonds of matrimony Mr. James Gill Stephens, a prominent young business man of Chicago, and Miss Elizabeth Hughes Caldwell, daughter of Mr. H. C.Caldwell.The ceremony was performed at high noon on Wednesday, at the home of the bride's parents, No. 2340 Chapline Street.Rev. Dr. R. Rush Swope, rector of St. Matthews P. E. Church, tied the nuptial knot in the presence of an assemblage of invited guests, the invitation list embracing only relatives and close friends of the happy principals.
The parlors in which the pretty event was solemnized were tastefully decorated with palms, ferns, and potted plants.Prof. Charles Killmeyer presided at the piano, and executed a tuneful march as the bridal party entered. The groomsman was Mr. C. F. Caldwell brother of the bride, and the bridesmaids Miss Fanny Campbell and Miss Alice Caldwell, sister of the bride. They were attired in becoming costumes of blue and pink silk respectively. The natural beauty of the bride was enhanced by a charming gown of white Bengaline silk, trimmed with point lace, diamond ornaments.
At the conslusion of the impressive ceremony, an excellent wedding breakfast was discussed.Mr. and Mrs. Stevens departed on the 3:35 o'clock train over the Pan-Handle, for an extendedtour of the East. They will be at home after two weeks, at 102 Calumet avenue, Chicago.
