Ann, I do not have the dates of death for either Virginia or "Tar", but I did find an obituary notice for Virginia out of the Birmingham News (no date, but it is on a page from the late 1960s -early 1970s), and found in an old scrapbook kept by my grandmother, her sister-in-law.Here it is:
"Paper Owner's Wife Dies in Selma"
Mrs. Walter C. Calhoun, wife of one of the owners of The Selma Times, died early today at a Selma Hospital.
The former Virginia Barnett Eden of Cuba, Mrs. Calhoun lived in Birmingham when her husband was composing room foreman of The Birmingham Post and later when he was employed in the composing room of The Birmingham News and Post-Herald.
Mrs. Calhoun was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eden. Her father for many years was with Porter Clothing Company on Third Avenue at 20th Street North.
Mrs. Calhoun suffered a fall two weeks ago and her health had failed since then, although she had a temporary rally, family members said.
Graveside services at Elmwood Cemetery will be announced.
Surviving are her husband;a son, Henry Eden Calhoun of the U. S. Navy, stationed in Oakland, California;a daughter, Mrs. Alta Townsend of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Henry Eden of Meridian, Mississippi;and eight grandchildren.
Hope this helps a little;wish I did have the dates.I also have a photo of W. C. Calhoun being presented with his 50 year `certificate for continuous membership in the International Typographical Union. The Photo seems to have come from the Selma Times- Journal, where "Calhoun was mechanical superintendent at the Times-Journal for many years".Again no date.Guess we can all learn a valuable lesson - Date Those Articles and Photos!!!Becky
